We went and presented what we do at another work location last week. It was helpful to see how they viewed us and helpful for them to see that we were all in this work together. We all want to do a good job, but we all get pulled into extra work that prevents us from accomplishing our primary mission.
It also helped me appreciate where I work more! Of course, these experiences are always short lived. When we get back to the office there is always something that makes me want to pull my hair out or go tell someone off. Luckily, I have the senses to argue with myself alone in the kitchen at night instead of doing so at the office.
I could tell that some of the people thought that I was too strict, but at the same time we are in an environment where you give someone an inch and they think you have provided them access to the planet and perhaps even part of the Milky Way Galaxy. Seriously, I'm not really exaggerating that much here.
In the end, no matter what I say on this blog – I do appreciate my job. I am grateful for the opportunity to be in something that I can always improve upon as I go about my day to day work. I'm able to implement the web 2.0 technologies that I think make such profound influences on our lives. I get to simplify things don't to useful tools instead of theoretical jargon. I get to make sure that a product, and not just an idea, is produced at the end of the day.
I'm grateful, my friends, grateful. And, that is because I took a trip away to realize that I do have something here.
